Very less people in our society know about the Topographic surveys as we don’t find people using this word. I too heard this term some days ago and was curious to know about this type of survey to enhance my knowledge in this field. Surfing the web for long and visiting the different informative sites, I am now trying to provide you the information that I have collected
Topography is the study of the surface, features and shape of the earth and the other planets, asteroids and moons, it also describe the shapes, surface and the features that are depicted in maps.
The intention of topographic surveys is to collect survey statistics about the natural as well as the human created features of land and also its altitude. A three- dimensional map preparation requires the information provided by these surveys. It is interesting that you can also prepare a topographic map yourself in your home just by collecting the related field data.
The work generally consists of (a) establishing vertical and horizontal controls to work as the outline of the survey, (b) determining sufficient parallel location and altitude of the soil points for providing sufficient data required for plotting, (c) tracing all the natural and human-made things, (d) computing the angles, distances, and height, (e) drawing the topographic map.
Topographic surveys may be referred as line surveys and also conducted before any ownership change of land and even property owner. The major focal point of this survey lies on the distance from the land than the parallel measurements. Parallel measurements are gives after an in-depth study on both residential and boundary surveys.
While performing measurements for topographical surveys, the measurements are done with high quality units with electronic apparatus. The results after the survey are then handed on as contour lines on the maps of the land. The reports here differ from all the other type of survey reports which is a paper document typed on it.
Today with the use of higher level technology, you can get the digital form of the map and can upload it on the internet where every one can access it and witness your effort.
